New stuff Feb 9th

Tomorrow's a big release date for a few long-awaited albums.  Among them are Yeasayer's Odd Blood and One Life Stand by Hot Chip.

Overall, I like Odd Blood a lot.  The tracks maintain the tribal sound of the previous album, All Hour Cymbals but also has a distinct sound of its own with happy lyrics in "Ambling Alp," dancier tunes like "O.N.E." and the more romantic "I Remember."

This single was released last week.  One Life Stand is a more serious and mature album compared to their earlier jokier stuff.  I just realized it's like "one night stand" but with "life" instead of "night."

Justice + Jay-Z music video

Swizz Beats samples Justice's "D.A.N.C.E." (with help from Pharrell and Q-Tip) in "On to the Next One" from Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 (mp3 download from 2 posts ago).  Swizz Beats cuts "under the spotlight" for the chorus  ...whoa that was a lot of name-dropping.
One of my favorite music videos mixed up and not made worse.  Look how it's done on HipHopisDeadly.

A.A. Bondy

Scott "A.A." Bondy just had a show nearby.  I was out of town... It would've been great to see this guy live.  My friend Jackson (who knows everything) describes him as having genius lyrics, a lot like Bob Dylan.
A.A. Bondy started out in Birmingham, AL and now lives in upstate New York.  His 2nd album, When the Devil's Loose, was released in September and it's funking good.

Oberhofer

I've been listening to several tracks by this guy for more than a month now.  This post has been coming for a while...

Brad Oberhofer makes music from his homes in Tacoma and Brooklyn.  I'm a big fan of his sound and his voice aaaand I'm pumped to see what else he puts out.  "Find a new band to play with, start working on a symphony (no really, do it), mix your newfound formal training with the noisy exuberance of youth. Get raucous." -Brad
Oberhofer - Dead Girls Dance

Oberhofer - I Could Go

Oberhofer - Away FRM U

Mr. and Mrs. Carter

 Best part of the Grammys:

1.)  Jay-Z clapping after Beyonce's performance.
2.)  Beyonce almost mentioning her hub's name in her thank you speech.
3.)  Beyonce's nephew's tux and Nikes.
4.)  Beyonce's earrings.

Tribute to Beyonce breaking the record of most Grammys taken home in a single night by a girl... and something from The Blueprint 3:

Major Lazer - HALO (Beyonce Cover)

Jay-Z - On To The Next One (Featuring Swizz Beatz)
